Charing Cross Theatre rolls out red carpet for Mrs President

Miriam Grace Edwards (One of the Boys) and Sam Jenkins-Shaw (The King & I) will star in historical drama Mrs President, debuting at Charing Cross Theatre later this month.

Directed by Bronagh Lagan (Cruise), the cast are currently in rehearsals for the play, which will run from January 31 – March 16.

Mary Lincoln is a woman at war — with her grief, her detractors, and herself. Vilified by an envious elite and accused of treason, she strives to rebuild her public image to win the hearts of the American people. She turns to the world’s first celebrity photographer, Matthew Brady, who helped her husband, Abraham Lincoln, win the presidency. But their partnership unravels into a tense battle for creative control. As Mary fights to tell her story, the play delves into themes of power, identity, female agency, and the cost of representation.

Written by artist, playwright and historian John Ransom Phillips, the production features set and costume designs by Gregor Donnelly, lighting design by Derek Anderson, sound design by Sonum Batra, video design by Matt Powell and production management by Dan Weage.

The associate director and movement director is Sam Rayner. General management is by Katy Lipson and Kristie Winsen for ARIA Entertainment. Mrs President is produced by the Art Pond Foundation.

Christina Bianco to lead Little Voice

US singer and actor Christina Bianco heads the cast of The Rise and Fall of Little Voice, which comes to Richmond Theatre this June.

Directed by Bronagh Lagan (Cruise), Bianco (Funny Girl) will perform beloved ballads by icons such as Judy Garland, Shirley Bassey and Cilla Black live on stage, capturing their unique style through her extraordinary impressions.

The cast also includes Shobna Gulati (Everybody’s Talking About Jamie) as Mari Hoff, Ian Kelsey (Coronation Street) as Ray Say, Akshay Gulati (East is East) as Billy, William Ilkley (War Horse) as Mr Boo, Fiona Mulvaney (The Ferryman) as Sadie and James Robert Moore (All That) as Phone Man. Anna Hale (London Road) is also understudy LV and Sadie.

Exploring the highs and the lows of small-town dreams, family rivalry and finding your voice in a noisy world, Little Voice and Mari Hoff are a mother and daughter as far apart in character as can be. Left to her own devices, Little Voice starts to embody the famous divas she plays on repeat, from Judy Garland to Shirley Bassey, and becomes an overnight sensation.

The Rise and Fall of Little Voice by Jim Cartwright plays at Richmond Theatre from June 27 to July 2.
