James Dreyfus and James Wilby will join Anne Reid and Caroline Quentin in Daisy Goodwin’s By Royal Appointment, which will visit Richmond Theatre as part of its UK tour this summer.
Directed by Dominic Dromgoole, the show is described as a funny, poignant and celebratory new play about the kind of power that only the late Queen Elizabeth II could wield – through her wardrobe, charming the world through coats and admonishing her family through her carefully chosen hats.
But the Queen herself is uninterested in fashion. Her look is managed by her Designer, her Milliner and most powerful of all, her Dresser, who was a working-class girl who goes from advising the Queen on the colour of her lipsticks to the real power behind the throne. But the Dresser, like all royal favourites is living on borrowed time.
Reid stars as Queen Elizabeth II, Quentin is The Dresser, Dreyfus is The Milliner and Wilby is The Designer.
The designer is Jonathan Fensom, the lighting designer is Oliver Fenwick and the sound designer is Ella Wahlström.
By Royal Appointment plays Richmond Theatre from July 22-26. Tickets: www.atgtickets.com/richmond
