Inspired by Sophocles’ Electra and directed by Blair McAlpine, it is described as a story of justice, grief and familial violence.

Exploring the impact of growing up in a violent household on one little girl, and whether it’s possible for her to break that cycle of violence or not, Sharp Edges follows Ellie, a young woman looking back on her childhood as she seeks retribution against her mother. Ellie grows up idolising her dad and alienated by her mum, but when her older sister and dad suddenly disappear on the same night when she’s only six, her home becomes increasingly violent. Haunted by her childhood, as 24-year-old Ellie’s mum threatens to kick her out, she has one final chance to do the thing she’s been planning for years: right the wrongs of her past. Drawing on themes from the classic Greek tragedy of Electra, Sophie Max transforms the story into a contemporary tale of justice, grief, and living with the aftershocks of trauma.

Sharp Edges is presented in partnership with charity One in Four who support survivors of child sexual abuse, violence and trauma. The show will be highlighting the charity’s vital work, how to support it, and signposting audiences who may need it to their resources throughout the run.

The creative team also includes producer Zac Hamilton Wancke, lighting designer Laurel Marks, set designer Jida Akil and sound designer José Guillermo Puello.

Sharp Edges plays Camden People’s Theatre from November 11-14. Tickets here.
