Susan Sarandon and Andrea Riseborough will share the Old Vic stage for the UK premiere of Tracy Letts’ play Mary Page Marlowe this autumn.

Directed by Matthew Warchus, the Old Vic artistic director, the production marks Sarandon’s UK theatre debut and Riseborough’s return to the stage after 15 years.

90 minutes, 70 years, 11 scenes, 5 Marys and one extraordinary life. For Mary Page Marlowe, the cards seem stacked against her from start. A cradle-to-grave jigsaw puzzle, this disordered montage of a bruising life evolves into an extraordinary tribute to the very act of living.

Mary Page Marlowe is described as a vivid, time-jumping mosaic of one woman’s life, with Sarandon and Riseborough both playing Mary at different ages. Further casting is to be announced.

Letts’ show premiered at the Steppenwolf Theatre in Chicago in 2016 and opened Off Broadway in 2018. The show, performed in the round, will be the first production in Warchus’ final season as artistic director at the Old Vic.

The creative team also includes set & costume by Rob Howell, lighting by Hugh Vanstone, sound by Simon Baker and casting by Jim Carnahan.

Mary Page Marlowe will be on at The Old Vic from September 23 to November 1. Tickets go on general sale on Friday, July 4 here.
